About us
Our mission
Our mission is to lend a helping hand to students in case of difficulties and contribute to their well-being through our diverse initiatives. Together we aim to make life on Campus more enjoyable.
However, we cannot fulfil our mission alone. We need the support of students who want to get trained to help their peers. We are also open to collaboration with external partners.
If you would like to contribute to our mission, feel free to contact us by email: peers4you@fhstp.ac.at
As a place where many people with different ideas, plans and goals come together, the St. Pölten Campus brings a lot of positive potential along with a variety of personal problems, such as exam anxiety, conflicts among students or problems in private life.
Who better to understand these problems than students themselves? This is the idea behind the peer concept. Peer counselling is a method in which students with various problems can turn to other students (=peers), i.e. a possibility of help from students for students with the aim of solving problems quickly.
Peer counselling was launched in 2017 with the development of a concept tailored to the St. Pölten UAS. Students from different departments, lecturers from the Social Sciences and Emergency and Crisis Management staff worked together on the concept for one semester. In 2018, the first round of training started and the first counselling sessions were held. The Peers4You logo, which has remained unchanged since the beginning, was designed through a competition among the students, and the best logo was finally adopted after minor adjustments. The Peers were supported by the master's programme in Media and Communication, led by Sabine Fichtinger.
Due to the temporary lockdowns caused by the coronavirus in 2020, the peers expanded their services to online counselling to be there for the students.
With the expansion of the University of Applied Sciences St. Pölten to include the Bertha von Suttner Private University and thus the St. Pölten Campus, the optional subject for peer-training became available for BSU students as well. In 2023, the first BSU students were welcomed to the elective course and started their counselling activities.
Throughout this time, many people have supported us with their work and passion for our mission. Many peers invested their free time to be there for their colleagues and help them through their problems.
Others contributed to the success of the project with a strong sense for details, graphics and social media content, in addition to their peer counseling: Schweighofer Julia, Mühlberghuber Claudia, Laura Kaltenbrunner, Fabian Pilsner and Mariia Serafimova.
Collegial management of the Peers4You project
The project is managed by a team that has been working together since the start of the project. The different areas of specialization of the individual team leaders enable different perspectives to be brought in, broad networking within and outside the UAS and the ability to react quickly to difficulties.
